This section of Scripture is still focusing upon the confrontation Jesus had with religious people over healing a man that was invalid for 38 years. In this portion of the debate Jesus is on the offensive by revealing the terrible corruption that filled the hearts and minds of these religious people. We are still studying the event in John chapter five where Jesus healed a lame man and the confrontation with the religious Jews that broke out as a result. We will begin in verse 17 and end with verse 27. The focus of these verses are on who Jesus is and what comes out very powerfully is that Jesus is God. We see in these verses the trinity and how salvation comes through Christ alone. Our lesson today will take us into First Peter 4:12-15. In these verses Peter will address a little more deeply the subject of suffering, but his emphasis will be upon suffering for Jesus. We are told not to be surprised at the fiery trials that comes our way.
